Today’s podcast is on the difference between the “l” and “r” sounds. Sometimes English language learners fail to distinguish the “l” and “r” sounds. In order to speak clearly and accurately it’s essential to master the difference between “l” and “r” sounds.

今天的言易微课堂是关于“l” 和 “r”音的区别。学习英语的学生有的时候不能区分这两个音。学会区分“l” 和“r”这两个音能让你的英语更流利。

How to say “l” and “r” sounds? The key to creating these correct sounds is the tip of your tongue.

怎么发“l” 和 “r”呢？发音正确最关键的是你的舌尖。

To create the “l” sound the tip of your tongue should make contact with the top of your mouth, just behind your top teeth. “l”, “l”.

发“l” 音，舌要和口腔顶部接触，接触点就在你上牙齿的后面。

To create the “r” sound the tip of your tongue MUST NOT make contact with any part of your mouth. Your lips are somewhat pursed or rounded. The sides of your tongue may touch your teeth but the tip of your tongue should be in the middle of your mouth without touching anything.

发“r” 音，舌尖不能和口腔的任何部位接触。嘴唇微微撅起，或是形成圆形。舌侧面可以接触牙齿，但是舌尖应该在你的口腔中部，不接触任何部位。

So remember, when pronouncing the “l” and “r” sounds correctly focus on the tip of your tongue.

•      To say the “l” sound, the tip of your tongue makes contact with your mouth, just behind your top teeth.

•      To say the “r” sound, the tip of your tongue should not make contact with your mouth.

记住，要正确的发 “l” 和 “r” 音，需要注意你的舌尖。

•      发“l” 音，舌尖要和口腔顶部接触，接触点就在你上牙齿的后面。

•      发“r” 音，舌尖不能和口腔的任何部位接触。

Now let’s practise words that have both the “l” and “r” sounds in them.

Don’t worry if this is difficult for you. Improving your pronunciation takes practice. Practise over and over again, record and listen to yourself and watch your mouth and tongue in the mirror to notice what they’re doing when you pronounce the “l” and “r” sounds.

如果你感觉难，别担心。改善发音需要练习。反复不断地练习。给自己录音，听自己的发音，观察镜子里的自己，看看在你发“l”和“r”音的时候，你的嘴和舌头在干嘛。
