Ace, Ballpark, Catcher, Dugout, Error, Foul Ball, Grounder, Home Run, Infield, Jersey, Knuckle ball, Line drive, Mascot...



A. 【Ace】The best pitcher on each team is the ace of the pitching staff.

每一支球队最棒的投手就是投手群的王牌投手。Ace就是王牌，在棒球里面特指王牌投手（绝大多数情况是指王牌先发投手）。Tennis ace，网球高手，Flying ace, 王牌飞行员。



B. 【Ballpark】The ballpark is where baseball games are played. It's a fun place to spend the day!

棒球比赛在ballpark里进行，那是个可以玩上一天的有趣的地方。Ballpark，玩球的公园，是特别给棒球场的名字。一般棒球场都依山傍水，风景秀丽，就像一个可以全家人去休闲的公园，也特别符合棒球的体育加游戏的本质。“Football Field”足球场/橄榄球场，更多用“Field”，强调是个竞技的“战场”。



C.【Catcher】The catcher squats behind home plate and catches each ball thrown by the pitcher.

捕手（或称接手）蹲在本垒板后方，接每个投手投出的球。捕手不仅要指导和配合投手投球，因为可以纵览全局，还要指挥全队防守。



D.【Dugout】The dugout is the bench area where the players sit while waiting for their turn at bat. There are two dugouts on the filed, one for each team.

Dugout是球员等待打击时的休息区。棒球场上两个队有各自的休息区。有很多球场设计休息区是在看台斜坡下面或低于球场平面，所以用Dug out，挖掘出来。




E. 【Error】If a fielder misses the ball, he can be charged with an error.

如果内野手漏接了一个球，他会被记一次失误。有时棒球击出来球速很快，即使平时反复练习，仍然有可能漏接，属于知道要怎么做，但没有做好的error，不是无心犯错的mistake，更不是有毛病的fault。


F.【Foul Ball】A foul ball is hit into foul territory, outside the foul lines that are marked on the field.

界外球就是球被打倒场地标明的界外线以外的界外区域。比赛时裁判判罚时喊的“Foul!”就是这个词。



G.【Grounder】A ball hit sharply on the ground is called a grounder.

球被快速地击到地上被称为地滚球。地滚球是内野防守的必修课。



H.【Home Run】When the batter hits the ball over the outfield fence, the batter and all other runners on base get to score.

Home Run是指本垒打，击球员把球击出外场围墙，击球员和垒上的跑垒员都可以回本垒得分了。Home Run是棒球比赛最激动人心的时刻了。本垒是Home，棒球被喻为是一项“回家”的运动。


I.【Infield】The infield is the part of the field inside the base paths. It is shaped like a diamond.

棒球场垒道之内的部分被称为内野。它的形状像钻石菱形（不考虑视角的透视，其实是正方形的）。



J. 【Jersey】A special shirt is worn by each player to show what team he is on.

每个棒球运动员穿的代表不同球队的运动衫。



K.【Knuckleball】A knuckleball is a special pitch that darts and dips on its way toward home plate. The pitcher grips the ball with his knuckles, giving it a crazy spin when thrown.

指关节球就是蝴蝶球，是一种特别的向本垒方向飘忽下坠的投球。投手用指关节扣住球，在投出时给球特别的旋转力。实际上球在飞行时是不转的，受气流扰动，飞行轨迹会让打者（甚至包括捕手）难以捉摸。


L.【Line Drive】A line drive is a ball hit hard on a straight line.

Line drive(有时也称liner)是指猛烈击出的平飞球。它的飞行轨迹近似水平直线。对比飞行轨迹是抛物线的击出的球，平飞球显然对防守威胁更大。


【M, Mascot】The home team has a mascot. It leads the cheers!

主队都有吉祥物，它会带领观众欢呼。吉祥物可以调动主场气氛，鼓动观众对主队的支持，是球场不可或缺的角色。
